計劃簡介

面對全球化的浪潮以及網路的普及,二十一世紀的大學生利用英文進行跨文化溝通的需求越來越高,但是英文能力並非有效溝通的唯一關鍵。當代的英文已經成全球各地溝通的主要媒介,而非僅限於英美的資產,因此若要成功地運用英文達成溝通,學生必須具備對異文化的認識與尊重、對跨文化溝通技巧的了解、以及對全球議題的基本認識。

中山大學躋身教育部頂尖大學,為高東屏區重要的綜合型大學,在全球化的趨勢之下,始終致力於培養能適應快速變遷的新世代人才。因此,面對現代英語學習目標的改變,復思量學生人文深度的培育,本校規劃英語文課程之革新,以期達到以下三個目標:

發展具文化深度之英文課程:革新教材與教法,設計脈絡化課程,從認識異文化到具備能力對全球議題進行批判性思考,幫助學生逐步建立信心。在不同的情境中,以英語學習並深化個人專業,進而培養學生溝通技巧,提高國際移動力。學習過程中不僅增強全球化知識,拓展國際視野,更培養學生成為具有理性思維及良好溝通能力之高階管理人才。

實施多元評量:訓練學生有效運用英文於各種創意性表達,使其可以逐漸擺脫制式考試,建立溝通的信心和語言學習的興趣。

建立教師社群及教學分享平台:透過自建課程專屬網站,以及高東屏教學資源網站,分享示範課程、教學成果、學生專題作品等等教學資源,形成區域性英語教學資源中心。

Facing the tide of globalization and the universality of the Internet, students in the 21st century must deal with an increasing demand for cross-cultural communication in English. However, the English language is not the only key to effective communication.

Nowadays, English has become a main communication tool used by people around the world rather than being limited to a property owned by those in English-speaking countries. Hence, if students hope to communicate in English successfully, they must have certain knowledge of and respect for different cultures, an understanding of cross-cultural communication skills, and a fundamental knowledge of global issues.

Sun Yat-sen University, one of the top universities recognized by the Ministry of Education, is a leading multiple-disciplined university in the KTP region. In light of the globalization trend, the university has devoted its efforts to cultivating students who are able to adapt themselves to a speedily changing world. Therefore, in response to the change of current English learning goals, as well as in consideration of cultivating students’ deep humanity, the university has designed a new English curriculum in order to achieve the following three objectives:

1.Develop an English curriculum of cultural depth:

Adopting an innovative teaching methodology and materials, we designed a contextualized curriculum that will enable our students to establish their confidence gradually, from learning different cultures to thinking critically about global issues. They can also learn English and deepen their professional knowledge in different learning situations. In addition, they can develop their communication skills and increase their international mobility. Such learning will not only increase their knowledge about the world and broaden their international vision, but also help them become future executives who can think logically and have good communication skills.

2.Implement multiple assessments:

We train our students to use English effectively to express themselves creatively. They are expected to move away from standardized examinations gradually, enhance their confidence in communication, and develop an interest in learning languages.

3.Create a teachers’ community and teaching resources platform:

Through the project website and the website of the KTP Regional Resource Center for Teaching and Learning, we will share resources such as demonstrative courses, students’ learning results, and project products in order to build a regional English teaching resource center.
