課程大綱
本課程的主軸有三:「多元文化」、「溝通能力」、以及「全球視野」。
-多元文化」方面,透過共同教材搭配真實新聞報導,例如全球各地的生活型態報導、跨國婚姻、足球運動在不同國家的型態等等,培養學生對異文化的興趣,並連結到自身的本土文化。
-在「溝通能力」方面,透過英文學習,加強聽說讀寫技能。學生必須能夠閱讀特定議題之中篇文章,聽懂中篇對話和演講,並可以運用基礎寫作策略來書寫一段文意連貫的段落,且能針對已經理解的書寫或口語內容作相關之口頭回應,進而參與群組討論。
-「全球視野」方面,著重在全球議題的多元角度。利用共同教材內容搭配時事新聞,例如生活科技造成地球環境的改變、宗教組織與公平正義的爭議等等,讓學生將自身置於全球社群中,從不同的角度理解同一個議題,了解當代的全球化現象及衍生的矛盾與利弊,進而省思自身的公民責任
課程目標
課程共15個單元,專注於建立聽力理解和做筆記的技巧。本課程將透過五大主題—美國人民、美國特色、美國標誌、教育,及美國政府—相關的演講課程,來訓練學生的聽力,同時引領學生洞悉美國生活和文化。 本課程中的演講內容以自然語調呈現時下美國社會,引發學生的學習興趣,並介紹常見的演講組織架構,讓學生熟練運用於演講時的修辭用法。藉由主題式單元和情境式內容,建立學術研究常用的字彙。每ㄧ單元循序漸進式地引導學生以分段式筆記紀錄演說內容,幫助學生於聆聽演講時捕捉各段落的要點。聽後活動藉由小組討論來確認筆記內容,提昇語言的正確性且透過小組寫作活動,來協助學生發展學術和批判性思考的技巧。

This course, centering upon multicultural issues, aims to help students learn and understand multiple cultures through English learning. Its contextualized curriculum relates the contents to issues of globalization to provide students with learning environments in which multicultural interactions and communication are made possible. By producing oral and written works in English, students can develop their interests and curiosities about multicultural societies, which can cultivate their tolerance for different cultures and broaden their global vision, thereby becoming qualified world citizens.
課程目標
The course centers upon multicultural learning, communication skills, and global vision. By completing this course, students are expected to achieve the following objectives:
1. Be able to analyze different cultures, associate them with local cultures, and conduct field investigations or put their learning into practice.
2. Cultivate a humanistic disposition and have a deeper understanding of global issues, be able to think critically of specific issues, and exchange opinions in group discussions.
3. Enhance their English reading and listening comprehension skills, deliver very good oral presentations, and compose written works with clear statements.

General English: Advanced aims to help students reach higher-level English proficiency by providing them with intensive training in listening and speaking skills. It includes a variety of classroom activities that are designed to expose students to a wide range of real-life issues (e.g., education and culture), improve their communication skills, and enhance their critical thinking, analytical skills, creativity and understanding about different cultures. It also offers students abundant experience in working with their classmates on different group projects.
課程目標
This course aims to (1) develop students’ knowledge of vocabulary and grammar in English; (2) improve their listening and note-taking skills; (3) build their fluency and confidence in speaking English; (4) help them articulate their ideas and thinking in English more effectively.

As a course requirement, you will compose a creative business proposal in a small group. Your business plan must present unique and original business ideas you may want to take on in the future. You will conduct research based on questions that emerge from your analysis of market demand and consumer expectation. You will also be provided with opportunities to discuss your ideas with the instructor and your classmates. More details about this writing project will be announced in class.
# Classroom Policies:
1. CLASS ATTENDANCE
(1) Class attendance is a very fundamental requirement that will be strictly enforced in this course. You are required to come to class on time every week. Except for a hospitalized emergency (medical proof needed) or an authorized absence, absence from each class period will result in a one-point deduction from your attendance/participation score. Arriving late to class or leaving early will count as an absence.
(2) Do not use your electronic devices (e.g., smartphones and tablet computers) during class time, unless you are given permission by the instructor.
(3) Late assignments will not be accepted.
3. DISHONESTY
Academic dishonesty is a misconduct that occurs in academic exercises. It involves plagiarism, cheating, fabrication, etc. You will be penalized for academic dishonesty on any exams, tests, and exercises.

-「多元文化」方面,透過文學、文化、語言等真實材料和文學作品,幫助學生了解當代文化議題,透過英文學習異文化和本土文化的連結,進行跨語言、跨文化溝通。
-全球公民」方面,可以理解全球議題背後的人文關懷,對特定主題進行分析,強調批判式思考。幫助學生運用英文參與全球化議題的討論,並藉由實作落實全球公民的身份。深化學生人文素養,並藉由在地視角,積極加入全球文化圈。
-「溝通能力」方面,強調分析、組織、與批判能力。學生必須能夠閱讀特定議題之長篇學術文章,聽懂針對人文議題之對話和演講,並可以寫作論點明確、邏輯通順的書面報告,且能運用口說策略,對指定之議題進行專業報告,或透過創意方式表達論述。
-「全球視野」方面,著重在全球議題的多元角度。利用共同教材內容搭配時事新聞,例如生活科技造成地球環境的改變、宗教組織與公平正義的爭議等等,讓學生將自身置於全球社群中,從不同的角度理解同一個議題,了解當代的全球化現象及衍生的矛盾與利弊,進而省思自身的公民責任。

2. Food, drinks and the use of mobile are not allowed in class. Violations will be reflected in the final grade for the course.
3. There will be NO make-up quizzes for ANY reason. Also, late papers will NOT be accepted.
4. Being late for 15 minutes will be considered an absence.
5. If you are absent for 9 classes of the semester (including sick leave, leave for personal reason and school affairs), you will lose 10 points of the final grade. (3 classes per week; total 54 classes)

Note: This is a preliminary version of the syllabus. The final version will be co-constructed with students after needs analysis is conducted.
This course intends to improve students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills. Different materials will be used to enrich this course. As a travel junkie, the instructor draws on his extensive travel experiences to discuss political, economic, social, cultural, and linguistic issues in selected countries.

本課程的課程素材以國際重要議題為主。教師將引導學生解讀不同觀點,並藉由口說及專題報告作業,嘗試將自身置於國際社群中,參與國際重要議題對話。
課程目標
本課程搭配全球議題相關內容,拓展學生國際視野。預期學生在完成本課程後可以達到以下學習目標:
1. 對國際重要議題有較深的認識,可以針對特定議題進行批判思考,解讀不同觀點,並進行田野調查或實作。

本課程的主軸有三:「多元文化」、「溝通能力」、和「全球公民」。
– 在「多元文化」方面,學生透過閱讀共同教材文章、一篇短篇故事以及自己收集的相關新聞或文章來體察自身文化與異文化的同與異。再者,學生也會根據不同文化間的差異來反思各文化中間可能發生的衝突以及合作關係。
– 在「溝通能力」方面,學生在閱讀過中長篇文章後,透過撰寫書面報告或是口頭呈現的方式來表達自己對於多元文化下不同情境的理解以及看法。此外,學生也將學習如何在團體討論過程中經由發現並且斡旋同學們之間的不同意見來落實異文化的體驗。
– 在「全球公民」方面,學生除了透過閱讀全球性相關議題的文章並且思考自己在全球化世界的位置之外,能夠更進一步地發想自己要能如何積極地參與不同的全球化議題,來成就自己為全球公民之實。

課程大綱
本課程的主軸有三:「多元文化」、「溝通能力」、以及「全球視野」。
– 「多元文化」方面,透過共同教材搭配真實新聞報導,例如全球各地的生活型態報導、跨國婚姻、足球運動在不同國家的型態等等,培養學生對異文化的興趣,並連結到自身的本土文化。
– 在「溝通能力」方面,透過英文學習,加強聽說讀寫技能。學生必須能夠閱讀特定議題之中篇文章,聽懂中篇對話和演講,並可以運用基礎寫作策略來書寫一段文意連貫的段落,且能針對已經理解的書寫或口語內容作相關之口頭回應,進而參與群組討論。
– 「全球視野」方面,著重在全球議題的多元角度。利用共同教材內容搭配時事新聞,例如生活科技造成地球環境的改變、宗教組織與公平正義的爭議等等,讓學生將自身置於全球社群中,從不同的角度理解同一個議題,了解當代的全球化現象及衍生的矛盾與利弊,進而省思自身的公民責任。
課程目標
本課程以多元文化主題為核心,讓學生藉由英語文學習來認識和理解多元文化。設計脈絡化課程,並搭配與全球化議題相關的內容,以提供學生多元文化交流與溝通的學習情境。讓學生在運用英文口說和寫作表達能力的同時,也能培養對多元社會的興趣和探討能力,進而產生對異文化的包容力,拓展學生國際視野,因而具備成為世界公民的能力。

語文能力的進步乃循序漸進,因此學生必須恪守以下修課規定:
1.學生須準時到課,遲到十分鐘以上就算該堂缺課。
2.無故缺席三次(含)以上,該科成績不及格。
3.本課程各項小考不提供補考機會。
4.作業須準時繳交,以求評分標準一致,遲交或缺交一律不予記分。

本課程融入英文聽、說、讀、寫四種技能,期望學生能精進英文能力,並培養自主學習英文的能力。
課程目標
能讀懂與熟悉議題相關的短篇文章、能運用基礎閱讀策略了解文章大意及基本文法架構。能大致聽懂與熟悉議題相關的短篇對話內容;能運用基礎聽力策略大致了解主旨、情境及目的。能寫出完整句子;能應用基本句型及字彙寫一段與熟悉議題相關的段落。能運用片語及簡短句子來進行基礎對話;能利用課堂中所學的基本口說策略進行簡單對談。
