課程大綱Course syllabus

本課程的主軸有三:「多元文化」、「溝通能力」、以及「全球視野」。
-多元文化」方面,透過共同教材搭配真實新聞報導,例如全球各地的生活型態報導、跨國婚姻、足球運動在不同國家的型態等等,培養學生對異文化的興趣,並連結到自身的本土文化。
-在「溝通能力」方面,透過英文學習,加強聽說讀寫技能。學生必須能夠閱讀特定議題之中篇文章,聽懂中篇對話和演講,並可以運用基礎寫作策略來書寫一段文意連貫的段落,且能針對已經理解的書寫或口語內容作相關之口頭回應,進而參與群組討論。
-「全球視野」方面,著重在全球議題的多元角度。利用共同教材內容搭配時事新聞,例如生活科技造成地球環境的改變、宗教組織與公平正義的爭議等等,讓學生將自身置於全球社群中,從不同的角度理解同一個議題,了解當代的全球化現象及衍生的矛盾與利弊,進而省思自身的公民責任。

課程目標 Objectives

本課程以多元文化主題為核心,讓學生藉由英語文學習來認識和理解多元文化。設計脈絡化課程,並搭配與全球化議題相關的內容,以提供學生多元文化交流與溝通的學習情境。讓學生在運用英文口說和寫作表達能力的同時,也能培養對多元社會的興趣和探討能力,進而產生對異文化的包容力,拓展學生國際視野,因而具備成為世界公民的能力。

本課程的主軸有三:「多元文化」、「溝通能力」以及「全球公民」。
– 英文高級在「多元文化」方面,透過文學、文化、語言等真實材料和文學作品,了解當代文化議題,透過英文學習異文化和本土文化的連結,進行跨語言、跨文化溝通。
– 「全球公民」方面,可以理解全球議題背後的人文關懷,對特定主題進行分析,強調批判式思考。可以運用英文參與全球化議題的討論,並藉由實作落實全球公民的身份。深化學生人文素養,並藉由在地視角,積極加入全球文化圈。
– 「溝通能力」方面,強調分析、組織、與批判能力。學生必須能夠閱讀特定議題之長篇學術文章,聽懂針對人文議題之對話和演講,並可以寫作論點明確、邏輯通順的書面報告,且能運用口說策略,對指定之議題進行專業報告,或透過創意方式表達論述。

課程大綱Course syllabus

This course is designed to help students use English as a communication tool to learn and to discuss multicultural issues. The curriculum encourages students to relate the local culture to the other cultures from a cross-cultural perspective. Meanwhile, students are made to reflect on and re-recognize their own local culture after dialoguing with other cultures. In addition to in-class quizzes and activities, students are asked to conduct field investigation to enhance communication skills in a real-life situation. By making oral presentations and writing assignments in English concerning multicultural issues, students can not only sharpen English speaking and writing skills but also cultivate a global vision.

課程目標 Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, students are able to:
1. express critical thoughts on multicultural issues in spoken and written English;
2. cultivate multicultural awareness and show tolerance and respect to different cultures;
3. enhance communication skills through group discussions and projects;
4. develop a global vision via local culture;
5. get familiar with self-learning by conducting field investigation and online research.

Please note:
1. No late or make-up work is accepted without an excused absence, granted only for illness (medical certification needed) or an extreme emergency with a notice to the instructor before class. Students who do not turn in written assignments will receive zero credit.
2. Students are expected to participate eagerly in class discussions. Their performance and contribution in class will be counted for evaluating their “class participation.”
3. Regular attendance is required. Students should arrive on time; being late to class for more than 15 minutes will be counted one absence. The overall course score will have 20 points deducted for students with more than 3 absences for whatever reasons.
4. Any form of plagiarism is strictly prohibited. Violation will result in “no credit” for the course.
5. All assignments must be typed (12-point Times New Roman), double-spaced, and turned in at the beginning of the class. Students are required to OBSERVE the ethics of citing references.
6. Bonus Points: Additional 5 points will be awarded to students who attend activities held by English Teaching Center (ETC) for an appropriate amount of time. Students need to get 10 stamps in order to get the bonus points. Please visit ETC to learn the conditions in which students can get stamps. Please also note that the highest scores of this course remain 100.

本課程的主軸有三:「多元文化」、「溝通能力」、和「全球公民」。
– 在「多元文化」方面,學生透過閱讀共同教材文章、兩篇短篇故事以及自己收集的相關新聞或文章來體察自身文化與異文化的同與異。再者,學生也會根據不同文化間的差異來反思各文化中間可能發生的衝突以及合作關係。
– 在「溝通能力」方面,學生在閱讀過中長篇文章後,透過撰寫書面報告或是口頭呈現的方式來表達自己對於多元文化下不同情境的理解以及看法。此外,學生也將學習如何在團體討論過程中經由發現並且斡旋同學們之間的不同意見來落實異文化的體驗。
– 在「全球公民」方面,學生除了透過閱讀全球性相關議題的文章並且思考自己在全球化世界的位置之外,能夠更進一步地發想自己要能如何積極地參與不同的全球化議題,來成就自己為全球公民之實。

課程大綱Course syllabus

本課程的主軸有三:「多元文化」、「溝通能力」、以及「全球視野」。
– 「多元文化」方面,透過共同教材搭配真實新聞報導,例如全球各地的生活型態報導、跨國婚姻、足球運動在不同國家的型態等等,培養學生對異文化的興趣,並連結到自身的本土文化。
– 在「溝通能力」方面,透過英文學習,加強聽說讀寫技能。學生必須能夠閱讀特定議題之中篇文章,聽懂中篇對話和演講,並可以運用基礎寫作策略來書寫一段文意連貫的段落,且能針對已經理解的書寫或口語內容作相關之口頭回應,進而參與群組討論。
– 「全球視野」方面,著重在全球議題的多元角度。利用共同教材內容搭配時事新聞,例如生活科技造成地球環境的改變、宗教組織與公平正義的爭議等等,讓學生將自身置於全球社群中,從不同的角度理解同一個議題,了解當代的全球化現象及衍生的矛盾與利弊,進而省思自身的公民責任。

課程目標 Objectives

本課程以多元文化主題為核心,讓學生藉由英語文學習來認識和理解多元文化。設計脈絡化課程,並搭配與全球化議題相關的內容,以提供學生多元文化交流與溝通的學習情境。讓學生在運用英文口說和寫作表達能力的同時,也能培養對多元社會的興趣和探討能力,進而產生對異文化的包容力,拓展學生國際視野,因而具備成為世界公民的能力。

本課程融入英文聽、說、讀、寫四種技能,期望學生能精進英文能力,並培養自主學習英文的能力。

課程目標 Objectives

能讀懂與熟悉議題相關的短篇文章、能運用基礎閱讀策略了解文章大意及基本文法架構。能大致聽懂與熟悉議題相關的短篇對話內容;能運用基礎聽力策略大致了解主旨、情境及目的。能寫出完整句子;能應用基本句型及字彙寫一段與熟悉議題相關的段落。能運用片語及簡短句子來進行基礎對話;能利用課堂中所學的基本口說策略進行簡單對談。
